Long Beach State Loses Tight Match Against Cal State Fullerton

Three singles matches went the full three sets in the 4-3 defeat.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State put up a tremendous fight against Cal State Fullerton, but came up short against Cal State Fullerton in the end, falling 4-3.
To kick off the day, it was a strong start for Long Beach State (8-9, 3-4 Big West) as top doubles pair Zara Lennon and Sheena Masuda dominated over Eira Tobrand and Camila Garcia of Cal State Fullerton (14-4, 4-2 Big West), 6-1. The Titans fought back in the second flight and evened the score with YuSeung Suh and Natalie Duffy winning against Nikola Homolkova and Peppi Ramstedt, 6-1. Cal State Fullerton then took the doubles point in what would end up being a critical match as Juliette Daries and partner Kaytlin Taylor took the win against Claire Le Du and Zuzanna Szczepanska, 6-4.
In singles action, Sheena Masuda quickly evened the score with her win against Juliette Daries 6-2, 6-3. It was a back-and-forth battle between the young Beach team and the Titans as Eira Tobrand defeated Claire Le Du 6-4, 7-6( 2) while Zara Lennon tied the score 2-2 with her win in the 3rd set against Natalie Duffy 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-2.
The remaining matches all also went into a third set. YuSeung Suh defeated Nikola Homolkova 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 in the top flight, while Zuzanna Szczepanska's win in the third set against Mariia Nikitash left the dual to be determined in the fifth flight. Ultimately, Fullerton took home the win with Camila Garcia winning over Peppi Ramstedt 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
The Beach continues Big West play next Saturday at CSUN at 11 a.m.
