LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State Men's Golf team looks to defend its 2021 Big West Conference Championship on Sunday, May 1 at the 2022 Big West Men's Golf Championships at the La Quinta Country Club.
The nine-team field will compete for the Big West Conference Title and an automatic berth into the 2022 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships.
The Beach will tee off in the first round on Sunday, May 1 sending their talented lineup of senior Tyler Schafer, freshman Ian Gilligan, sophomore Isaac Rodea, senior Jack Ainscough, and freshman Steven Deutsch to the green.
Long Beach State finished the regular season strong as they closed out the month of April with a pair of runner-up finishes, and an individual medalist performance from Rodea at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic.
Rodea's first-ever tournament win earned him Big West Conference Golfer of the Month accolades as he shot 13-under par firing 65-69-69 to lead the Beach to a 26-under par showing for second place.
LBSU followed that performance with a 6-under par showing at the El Macero Classic as the Beach placed second and just one stroke out of first. Schafer and Gilligan led the way for the Beach as they tied for seventh place with identical 4-under par performances.
Long Beach State looks to continue its momentum into the Big West Tournament. Fans can follow all the action via golfstat.com.
