The Beach Falls to UC Santa Barbara on Last Day of Road Matches

The Gauchos defeated Long Beach State 4-1 on Saturday
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Long Beach State came out of the gates strong, winning the doubles point, but lost their momentum during singles action in their last conference match of the weekend as they dropped a 4-1 contest to UC Santa Barbara.
"We played great doubles today to take a 1-0 lead on the top team in the conference," LBSU Head Coach Jenny Hilt-Costello stated. "We have some work to do in singles and have three weeks to make those adjustments before the Big West Conference Tournament at the end of the month."
It was a tremendous start to the day in doubles competition as top flight partners Zara Lennon and Sheena Masuda defeated No. 60 Shakhnoza Khatamova and Elizaveta Volodko, 7-5. In the second flight, No. 68 Amelia Honer and Kira Reuter fell to Nikola Homolkova and Peppi Ramstedt, 4-6, giving the Beach (8-8, 3-3 Big West) the doubles point.
UC Santa Barbara (10-6, 2-0 Big West) fought back in singles play with Amelia Honer claiming the first point for the Gauchos against Claire Le Du 6-0, 6-0. No. 105 Shakhnoza Khatamova came out victorious against Nikola Homolkova 7-5, 6-1. The match was clinched with Filippa Bruu-Syversen's win against Peppi Ramstedt 6-4, 6-1.
The Beach will take on Cal State Fullerton on Friday, April 8 at 2 p.m. at Rhodes Tennis Center. Live stats will be available at beachlivestats.com.
