No. 11 Ranked Beach Opens Arizona Invitational with Two Wins

With two more wins, Long Beach State has now won five straight duals.
TUCSON, Ariz. – Looking to continue their three-match win streak, No. 11 Long Beach State got off to a strong start with two wins on Friday against Stephen F. Austin and Southern Miss. Winning both duals, 4-1, the Beach has now won 13 of their last 15 matches.
Long Beach State's first dual of the tournament was against Stephen F. Austin, which The Beach took in a decisive manner, beating them 4-1. Nicci Reinking/Claire Newlander scored the first point for the Beach in dominating fashion, beating their opponents in back-to-back sets, 21-9 and 21-14. Kenzie Holtz/Holland Jackson picked up the clinching point in flight number three with a three-set victory.
For the second dual of the day, Long Beach State faced Southern Miss for the second time this season. All of The Beach's points were scored with two set games, with Emily Mattoon/Jillian Rodriguez wrapping up the third flight first in straight sets, 21-15 and 21-12. Katie Kennedy/Sydney Stevens picked up the clinching point in ones to secure the 2-0 day for the Beach.
Long Beach State is scheduled to finish the Arizona Invitational in Tucson on Saturday against the host Wildcats at 9 a.m. and Grand Canyon at 11 a.m.
