Throwers Start Strong at Beach Opener

The LBSU throws team had a successful first day of the outdoor season.
LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach State track and field throws team got the outdoor season started on Friday with a strong performance in the Hammer Throw and Javelin.
Sebastian Coleman led the way with a fourth place finish in the men's Hammer. His throw of 62.96m (206' 6") marks a new lifetime-best for the junior and puts him in eighth on the program's all-time list. Alec Jones finished right behind Coleman with a mark of 62.49m (205'). It is a new lifetime-best for him as well and moves him into ninth in program history for the event.
Also in the men's Hammer, Pablo Gamez made his LBSU outdoor debut with a throw of 57.55m (188' 9") to finish eleventh. Senior Ryan Coy also posted a new lifetime-best at 53.64m (176'), finishing sixteenth.
In the men's Javelin, Marcos Gonzalez came out in third place to begin his 2022 campaign with a throw of 59.56m (195' 5"). Coy competed in the Javelin as well, finishing fourteenth with a mark of 46.00m (150' 11").
On the women's side, Kayla Reynante made her outdoor debut in the Javelin. The true freshman posted a throw of 30.61m (100' 5") to finish 22nd.
In the women's Hammer, Keeley Rasmussen just missed a top ten in her outdoor debut. Her throw of 48.42m (158' 10") put her in twelfth place. Alexis Pagala also made her outdoor debut in the hammer throw, finishing 29th with a mark of 40.96m (134' 4").
The Beach Opener continues tomorrow with the rest of the open/university events. All the action begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Jack Rose Track.
