No. 16 Long Beach Sweeps Saint Mary’s, Wins Battle against San Jose State

The Beach extended their win streak to five straight games with a sweep of Saint Mary’s and 3-2 win over San Jose State.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 16 Long Beach State (9-9) began their trip to Northern California with a pair of victories on Thursday, sweeping Saint Mary's and beating San Jose State, 3-2. The Beach has now won five straight and eight of their last nine matches.
The Beach started the Northern California duals with a 5-0 sweep against Saint Mary's. Three of the matches lasted to the third set, but the duo of Nicci Reinking/Claire Newlander managed to close their match with a swift first set 21-13 and decisive second set 21-17. The duo of Sophie Major/Christine Deroos took the fifth flight in straight sets as well, 21-19 and 21-16.
For the second dual of the weekend, Long Beach State were set to play against San Jose State. The Beach went back and forth against the Spartans and ultimately came out triumphant, 3-2. Kenzie Holtz/Savannah Lyons defeated their opponents with a quick match against San Jose State 21-19, 21-18. Nicci Reinking/Claire Newlander and Sophie Major/Christine Deroos also managed to come out on top in their matches, with both duos having sets go over 21 points.
Long Beach State is scheduled to continue their matches in Northern California on Friday against UC Davis at 11:30 a.m. and No. 13 Cal at 2:30 p.m.
