Long Beach State Wraps Up First Round at The Goodwin

Tyler Schafer and Ian Gilligan lead the Beach as both are even with par after 18 holes

STANFORD, Calif. – The Long Beach State Men's Golf team kicked off The Goodwin on Thursday at the Stanford Golf Course and concluded the opening round with a 6-over par showing as senior Tyler Schafer and freshman Ian Gilligan both lead the way for the Beach with an even par.
Host Stanford sits at the top of the leaderboard as the Cardinal are shooting 12-under par at the end of the first round. SMU is in second with 10-under par, while Washington and Georgia Tech are tied for third with 9-under par.
Heading into the second round on Friday, March 25, Long Beach State sits in 22nd place after shooting 6-over on the first 18 holes. The Beach are just five strokes behind UC Davis, the top finisher among Big West competition.
Schafer and Gilligan turned in a pair of solid performances on Thursday as shot even with par and are tied for 58th among nearly 150 players.
Isaac Rodea finished the first round shooting 2-over par, while Jack Ainscough and Bryce Kvick both concluded the opening round with 4-over par showings.
Long Beach State will tee off at 1:20 p.m. on the back nine to open the second round on Friday, March 25.
