The Beach Defeats the Penguins, 6-1

Long Beach State took down Youngstown State in a 6-1 contest at Rhodes Tennis Center on Friday.

LONG BEACH, CALIF. - Long Beach State came out of the gates strong, sweeping the doubles point and carrying the momentum into singles, ultimately only losing one match against Youngstown State.

"It was a dominant performance in singles and doubles today," stated head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. "We're looking forward to playing a strong St. Mary's team on Sunday."

The Beach quickly got things going in doubles as Claire Le Du and Arina Babkova defeated Jessica Stanmore and Maria Oliveira, 6-1. In the top flight, Zara Lennon and Sheena Masuda claimed the doubles point against Cecelia Rosas and Julia Marko, 6-2. Making doubles play a clean sweep, Nikola Homolkova and Peppi Ramstedt won versus Eliska Masarikova and Elisa Rigazio, 6-3.

In singles, Peppi Ramstedt took the first singles point against Jessica Stanmore 6-2, 6-0. In the second flight, junior Zara Lennon added another point for the Beach versus Eliska Masarikova 6-3, 6-2. The young Beach team seemed unbeatable with Nikola Homolkova winning against Cecelia Rosas 6-3, 6-1, but the Penguins didn't go down without a fight. In the third flight, Julia Marko claimed the only point for the Sharks against Sheena Masuda 6-4, 6-1.

The Beach continued to win the last two singles points with wins from Le Du and Babkova, making it a 6-1 victory for Long Beach State.

Long Beach State returns to Rhodes Tennis Center for their next match on Sunday, March 13 at noon where they will face off against Saint Mary's. Live scoring of the match will be available on www.beachlivestats.com.
