Beach Closes Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic With 5-0 Loss To No. 9 Oregon

Two Oregon pitchers combined for a no-hitter as LBSU allowed just three hits to the Ducks.
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Long Beach State left more runners on base than No. 9 Oregon, but was unable to find the big hit in a 5-0 shutout loss to the Ducks in the final game of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic for the Beach.
Mo Quinlan and Jordan Dail went pitch-for-pitch over the first three innings as 18 batters led to 18 outs in the first time through the lineup for both teams.
Oregon (11-3) had their big inning in the fourth. Getting the first hit of the game on a leadoff single, an RBI hit from KK Humphreys broke the deadlock, and after a hit batter with the bases loaded added one more, a two-out error scored two more and the Ducks took a 4-0 lead.
Long Beach State (5-9) loaded the bases in the sixth inning and had two on in the seventh but were unable to pick up a hit to drive in the runs off of Dail or Raegan Breedlove, and Oregon added an insurance run with a solo home run off Addison Kostrencich, who was otherwise excellent in relief, with that being her only hit allowed over 2.2 innings pitched.
Long Beach State continues non-conference tournament play next week, traveling to San Diego for four games. The Beach will face co-hosts San Diego and San Diego State along with Utah State and Stony Brook next Friday and Saturday.
