Dirtbags Picked to Win Big West Conference

The Dirtbags have been picked to finish atop the conference standings in the preseason coaches’ poll.

IRVINE, Calif. – Long Beach State has been picked to win the Big West Conference in the Coaches' Preseason Poll. The conference office announced the news on Monday.
 
The Dirtbags totaled 97 points and received seven first-place votes, finishing just ahead of defending champion UC Irvine, who received three first-place votes and 92 total points.
 
UC Santa Barbara came in at third in the poll with 81 total points and a first-place vote. Cal Poly (75 points) and Cal State Fullerton (58 points) rounded out the top five. Hawai'i, CSUN, CSU Bakersfield, UC San Diego, UC Riverside, and UC Davis finish out the rest of the standings.

The Dirtbags will start the season as the number 24 ranked team in the nation by both D1Baseball.com and Perfect Game. They are one of three teams in the Big West to rank in the top 25 by any of the major publications.
 
They will open the season on the road this weekend as they head to Starkville, Miss. for a three-game series with the defending champion Mississippi State Bulldogs.
