Two freshman have signed their commitments to the program in the November period.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Head Coach Kim Sowder and the Beach Softball staff have announced that Malayna Torres and Sophia Stein have signed National Letters of Intent and will join the Long Beach State program next season.
"I'm thrilled to add Malayna and Sophia to our Beach Family," said Sowder. "They have both had great success in the classroom and on the field. Both of them are great competitors who love the game, want to be challenged, and are ready to compete for championships. I'm looking forward to their arrival and impact on our program."
"Sophia is a versatile infielder that gives us a ton of options," noted Sowder. "She knows the game well which helps her thrive at different positions. We loved what we saw from her both offensively and defensively each time she came out to our camps ,and we're looking forward to seeing that at the Beach."
The Beach also signed a local outfielder in Malayna Terrones. Competing at Los Alamitos High School, the program of current players Samantha Fowler and Carly Robbins, Terrones helped lead the Griffins to the Division I Southern Section championship as a junior, and is a two-time NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete.
"I like that Malayna competes at a high level in both high school and travel ball and has great success at both," stated Sowder. "She is a very consistent hitter with good pop from the left side, and defensively plays a solid outfield with a cannon for an arm."
Long Beach State softball has completed their fall competition schedule, and will begin the 2023 season in early February.
