LONG BEACH, Calif. –
Long Beach State returned to the Walter Pyramid after two weeks of road matches and put on a show in front of the crowd of nearly 1,500 on Friday night. The Beach and UC San Diego battled each other through three close sets, including a nail-biting second set that went into overtime, but LBSU ultimately pulled out the sweep downing the Tritons, 3-0 [25-22, 31-29, 25-23].

The match saw 27 ties and 14 lead changes as Long Beach State (17-8, 12-5 Big West) hit .226 to UC San Diego's (12-17, 5-12 Big West) .183 attack percentage. The Beach led the Triton in every statistical category en route to the straight set win.

Sophomore outside hitter Natalie Glenn led the way with her second double-double of the season as she knocked down 12 kills and a career-high 15 digs, while hitting .400 (12-2-25) on the night. She also added a career-best three aces to go along with two assists, and one block in an all-around solid performance.

Redshirt junior Morgan Chacon led the Beach with 13 kills, while adding four digs and two blocks, while Katie Kennedy and Callie Schwarzenbach contributed eight and seven kills, respectively.

Pacing the LBSU offense was redshirt freshman setter Zayna Meyer who dished out 38 assists, while posting six digs, three kills, three blocks, and one ace while piloting the Beach to a .226 attack percentage.

On the defensive end, senior libero Dylan Dela Cruz logged 22 digs for her 10th 20-plus dig performance of the season. Earning the start at defensive specialist was junior Nicole Hoff who finished the contest with a season-high nine digs.

At the net, Schwarzenbach led the way with six blocks as Long Beach State finished the match with 9.0 total team blocks.

The first set saw eight ties and five lead changes as the two teams battled each other point for point. With the score tied 19-all, Chacon knocked down a kill to give the Beach a lead it would not relinquish. LBSU took a 21-19 advantage as UCSD called a timeout. Long Beach came back to the court and pushed it to set point, 24-22, on a kill from Glenn before winning the set on an ace from Glenn.

The second set saw even more back and forth battles as there were 15 ties and eight lead changes in the set that went into overtime. Long Beach State reached set point first (24-23) on a kill from Chacon, but UC San Diego would not go quietly. The Beach and the Tritons exchanged set points until the score was deadlocked at 29-29. LBSU's Glenn and Kennedy knocked down back-to-back kills to win the set and give the Beach a 2-0 set lead.

After three early ties in the third set, Long Beach State took control of the frame and held a slight lead over UC San Diego. The Tritons, however, would chip away and even the score at 21-21 forcing an LBSU timeout. The Beach regrouped and came back onto the court and knocked down back-to-back kills from Schwarzenach and Kameron Bacon to go up 23-21. From there, Long Beach sent it to match point on a kill from Chacon, before Glenn finished it off with her final kill of the match.

The Tritons were led by Ava McInnes and Zaria Henderson who each tallied 15 kills. Henderson added 13 digs for a double-double, while Naya Dong and Natalie Repetti also recorded double-figure digs with 12 digs each. Izzi Stand distributed 37 assists to go along with nine digs, and four blocks to lead the team at the net.
