CARMEL VALLEY, Calif. –
On the final day of the Cal Poly Invitational, Long Beach State battled the elements as the winds picked up and rain scattered the area. With heavy winds each team added a few strokes to their scorecards as the Beach dropped three places on the final day to finish in a tie for ninth place for 9-over par.

No. 36 Ohio State shot even with par on the final day to win the tournament with a 19-under par, while No. 46 Northwestern dropped into second place with 16-under par total after shooting 11-over in the third round. SMU claimed third as the Mustangs shot 6-under on the final 18 holes to bring their tournament score to 13-under.

The Beach, meanwhile, shot a 16-over par on the final day as they finished in a three-way tie with San Francisco and Oregon State at 9-over for the tournament.

Leading the way for Long Beach State was sophomore Ian Gilligan who finished with a 2-under par showing as he tied for 13th. As with all the golfers on the final day, Gilligan battled the wind and shot a 75 with four birdies on the last 18 holes.

Freshman Ivan Barahona concluded his collegiate debut tournament with a Top 25 finish as he fired a 73 for 1-over par on the final day to bring his total to 217 (1-over).

Rounding out the Beach's lineup were Jack Cantlay who shot 4-over par, Sebastian Vallejo who finished 8-over, and Jaden Huggins who shot 11-over.

Long Beach State will be back in action in January when they kick off the spring season at the Arizona Intercollegiate on Monday, Jan. 30 and Tuesday, Jan. 31 in Tucson, Arizona.
