LBSU Men’s Golf Heads North to Compete at the Mackenzie Invitational

The Beach is looking to continue the solid start to the season on Monday and Tuesday at the Mackenzie

LONG BEACH, Calif. – After winning the Nick Watney Invitational two weeks ago, Long Beach State looks to continue its hot start to the season as the Beach heads to the Mackenzie Invitational hosted by Cal. The Mackenzie is set to begin on Monday, Oct. 10, and concludes on Tuesday, Oct. 11 in Sonoma, Calif., at the Sonoma Golf Club.

The tournament will feature Long Beach State, host Cal, as well as Dartmouth, Drexel, Harvard, Minnesota, Santa Clara, San Jose State, and UC Santa Barbara.

This week, the Beach will send the starting lineup of sophomore Ian Gilligan, senior Isaac Rodea, freshman Jaden Huggins, freshman Krishnav Nikhil Chopraa, and freshman Jack Cantlay to the green to compete.

Gilligan is coming off the best performance of his collegiate career in which he won the individual title at the Nick Watney Invitational with after firing a 66-64-69 for a 199 14-under par showing. The Reno, Nev., native was awarded Big West Golfer of the Month for his efforts.

Teeing off in the No. 2 spot for the Beach is Rodea who posted a Top 5 finish two weeks ago at the Nick Watney Invitational. The product out of San Diego, Calif., is coming off of a 68-69-66 showing in which he finished with a 203 10-under par performance.

Huggins is a freshman who has gotten off to a solid start in his collegiate career thus far. The Murrieta, Calif., native finished 15th at the Nick Watney Invitational with a 3-under par performance.

Chopraa made his collegiate debut at the Nick Watney Invitational competing as an individual. He was consistent throughout the tournament finishing with a 70-70-71 for 2-under par as he tied for 16th. This week, the New Delhi, India native looks to build on his solid showing from two weeks ago.

Rounding out the LBSU starting lineup at the Mackenzie will be Cantlay, a freshman from Los Alamitos, Calif. He made his collegiate debut three weeks ago at the Husky Invitational and improved each round as he shot 77-74-72 finishing with a 7-over par Top 25 performance.
