The Beach are looking for another Top 5 finish as they play at Cal Poly on Monday and Tuesday

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State Men's Golf team is set to close out the fall season at the inaugural Cal Poly Invitational on Monday, Oct. 31 and Tuesday, Nov. 1 at the Preserve Golf Club in Carmel Valley, Calif.

The Beach are one of 13 teams set to compete in the invitational long with host Cal Poly, Marquette, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Oregon, Oregon State, SMU, USC, South Florida, San Francisco, and Washington.

Long Beach State has competed in three other fall tournaments earning a Top 5 finish in all of them, including a tournament win at the Nick Watney Invitational at the end of September.

The starting lineup for the Beach this week is comprised of sophomore Ian Gilligan, freshman Jack Cantlay, freshman Jaden Huggins, redshirt sophomore Sebastian Vallejo, and freshman Ivan Barahona.

Gilligan has been on a roll as of late. The Reno, Nev., native has won the last two tournaments for Long Beach State. He earned his first collegiate tournament win at the Nick Watney Invitational where he posted a career-best 14-under par 199 performance to tie the program's low 54-hole score. He followed that showing with a 15-under par 201 at the Mackenzie Invitational.

Cantlay will tee off in the No. 2 spot in the lineup after a 5-over par showing at the Mackenzie. He made his LBSU debut at the Husky Invitational where he turned in a 7-over performance to place in the Top 25.

Huggins has seen action in all three previous fall tournaments. His best performance thus far came at the Nick Watney Invitational where he finished 3-under par with a 210 to place 15th.

Vallejo made the starting lineup after having played in the Husky Invitational to start the fall season. In that tournament he shot 9-over par as he looks to improve on that mark this week at Cal Poly.

Rounding out the starting five for the Beach is Barahona who will be making his collegiate debut. The product out of Van Nuys, Calif., came to the Beach after prepping at Crespi Carmelite High School where he was a three-time all-league selection.
