BOULDER CITY, NEV. – Long Beach State closed out the opening day of The Clash At Boulder Creek in fourth place overall and just two strokes out of second place in a good start at the final tournament of the fall.
Long Beach State ended the opening day of the three day tournament with a 294 (+6) as a team. Junior Hannah Ko and freshman Jasmine Leovao shared the team lead as both finished Sunday with scores of 73, one over par as both had four birdies on the day.
The Beach had a balanced day, as their next duo was just one stroke back. Sophomore Kristina Ponomareva closed the day at 74, continuing her strong play of late, while freshman Janae Leovao also finished Sunday with a 74.
Long Beach State's non-counting score came from another solid round, as Angelina Kim shot a 3-over par 75, tied for 33rd overall and easily in the top half of the 100-plus participating golfers in the event.
Nevada holds the tournament lead after the first round, while UTEP closed the opening round in second, +4 as a team while Boise State was third at +5.
