The tie extends Long Beach State’s unbeaten streak to eight consecutive matches.

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Beach bounced back from an early deficit to force a draw at Cal Poly on Thursday night. With the tie, Long Beach State (6-4-6, 5-0-3 Big West) remain in sole possession of first place with just two matches remaining.

The Mustangs took an early lead with an early goal in the third minute of the match taking control right out of the gate. It looked like the Beach would answer in the 15th as a play in the box gave Sophie Jones a good look near the eight-yard line, but her shot went off the crossbar and out of bounds.

For the rest of the first half, the teams went back-and-forth ultimately ending up with five shots each. After the early goal, Zora Standifer settled in to record a pair of saves and keep the deficit at just one.

Coming out of the break and down a goal, Long Beach State did not waste much time to net the equalizing goal. In the 50th minute, contact between Julia Moore and the Cal Poly goalie forced a tough clear from the Mustang defense that wound up going right to Sara Ybarra. From about 35 yards out, the redshirt freshman sent a perfectly placed dart over the head of the keeper and into the goal for her second goal in the last three matches.

Cal Poly had a decent look in the 64th minute to try and jump back in front, but a nice diving catch from Standifer kept the score knotted up at one. She would end up making five more saves in the second half for seven total on the night.

Long Beach's best chance for the lead came in the 83rd minute as Cherrie Cox ran down a ball downfield, catching up to just before it went out of bounds. Her pass went center of the box to Emily Jauregui for the shot, but a nice sliding reach from Poly's Mackenzie Samuel kept it out of the goal to keep things knotted up at one.

With ten seconds left, the Mustangs launched a corner kick in but a tremendous catch from Standifer kept the ball in front of the line and secured the 1-1 draw.

The tie extends the Beach's unbeaten streak to eight consecutive matches, tying the longest in program history.

Long Beach State will close out the week with their final road contest of the season at UC Santa Barbara. Kickoff from Harder Stadium will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
