Two Beach Tennis Athletes Crowned Champions at SDSU Fall Classic

The Beach concludes the San Diego State Fall Classic tournament with a near perfect singles record going 6-1.
San Diego, Calif. - In top gray and white single flights, Freshman Hana Becirovic Novak and Junior Sarah Medik were crowned champions in their respective flights, as Long Beach State wrapped up competition at USD. The Beach concludes the San Diego State Fall Classic tournament with a near perfect singles record going 6-1 this morning and a 1-3 record in doubles play.
In singles action, both Becirovic Novak and Medik came into Sunday with strong performances and determination. During both their runs to their championship matchup they persevered through grueling and keen flights which included their flights being decided by three sets minus only one.
In Medik's white singles flight, she defeated Natalie Duffy of CSUN in a tight match, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 while Becirovic Novak defeated Angela Ho of CSUN to clinch her championship in the gray singles flight as she continues an impressive freshman campaign.
Continuing with singles action, Justine Dondonay placed third place in the red singles flight by defeating Diana Yanotoskaya of CSUF, with a score of 7-5, 6-4. Sheena Masuda placed fifth place in red singles play by defeating Megan Tagaloa of CSUF, with a score of 6-2, 5-7, 6-1. Mathilde Tranberg placed fifth place in white singles as she defeated Cecile Morin of SDSU.
Additionally, in the black singles flight, Doga Akyurek placed fifth place by defeating Paloma Hennicaux of UTEP while obtaining her first collegiate victory. Nonetheless, Head Coach Jenny Hilt-Costello is immensely proud of her athletes.
"We had strong performances in singles today" said Head Coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. "I am proud of the team and the progress we made this weekend."
Long Beach State Tennis returns home to the Rhodes Tennis Center for the Beach Tennis Tournament which will take place Friday, Oct. 7 – Sunday, Oct. 9.
