The Beach conclude the day going 4-3 in singles and 2-2 in doubles.

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach State tennis opened play at the Beach Fall Invitational Tournament on Friday. The Beach concluded the first day of the tournament by going 4-3 in singles and 2-2 in doubles.

"Rhona and Sheena had a dominant performance in doubles today"  said Head Coach Jenny Hilt-CostelloOur singles efforts were strong even though we came up a little short in two matches. A lot to build on going into tomorrow."

The Beach set the tone early in the top black doubles flight as Sheena Masuda and Rhona Cook swept Buhr and Lamoureaux of GCU, 6-0. Cook is coming back from an abdomen injury following last weekend's SDSU tournament. However, Cook displayed no signs of discomfort and executed quality play. Singles action could be a potential for Cook but is not confirmed yet.

In the white doubles flight, the pairing of Peppi Ramstedt and Doga Akyurek defeated Frampton and Tolmoyan of Gonzaga and CSUN, with a keen score of 7-6 (5).

In the top black singles flight, Sarah Medik defeated Dania Deaifi of GCU in two straight sets, winning 6-0, 6-2. Medik continues to show an impressive start to the season as she looks to advance to the semi-final and compete for another championship.

Continuing with singles play, in the gold singles flight, Peppi Ramstedt and Hana Becirovic Novak obtained victories. Ramstedt defeated Larissa Teramura of UCI, winning 6-2, 6.1 while Becirovic Novak defeated Nour Khayat of UCI, with a score of 6-3, 6-4. Fresh off her title victory last Sunday, Becirovic Novak continues to dominate in her freshman campaign.

Lastly, Freshman Doga Akyurek earned her second singles victory of the season defeating Makaela Hinton of UCI, with a score of 6-1, 6-2. Long Beach State is now 19-11 in their overall singles record.
