Medik & Becirovic Novak advance to Finals at SDSU Fall Classic

Long Beach State concludes second day of tournament play.
San Diego, Calif. - Two Beach athletes advanced to the finals of their respective single flights this morning at USD. Overall, Long Beach State concluded their day by going 4-4 in singles play and 2-2 in doubles action.
In doubles action, the Beach started their day off well, winning their first two doubles matches. In the red doubles flight, Mathilde Tranberg and Justine Dondonay defeated Julia Jordan and Alexandria Von Tersch Pohrer of SDSU, with a competitive score of 7-6. In the black doubles flight, Hana Becirovic Novak and Doga Akyurek defeated Eve Daniels and Carlotta Mencaglia of UTEP. Both pairs will compete for third place in tomorrow's action.
Unfortunately, during doubles action in the semifinals, Rhona Cook did suffer an abdomen injury that held her off from her semifinal singles match. She will be out of action until further notice from Coach Jenny Hilt-Costello.
However, in singles action, Sarah Medik and Hana Becirovic Novak both set themselves for championship contention. Both have continued their strong play and look determined for their final's matchup. Medik obtained a thrilling victory over Cecile Morin of SDSU, with a score of 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 during their white singles flight. In the gray singles flight, Becirovic Novak completed her advancement by defeating Carlotta Mencaglia of UTEP, with a score of 1-6, 6-0, 6-4.
Additionally, in the red singles flight, Dondonay won a keenly contested match against Cindy Ung of CSUN, with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. During the black singles flight, Peppi Ramstedt defeated Paloma Hennicaux in two straight sets, with a score of 6-2, 6-2. Both athletes look towards placing third place in their respective flights.
Action is scheduled to resume on Sunday, October 2 at 9 a.m. with doubles action to begin the day, followed by single flights.
