Long Beach State won the doubles point against the Lions in a strong start of the day.
LONG BEACH, CALIF. - After not competing in a dual match for nearly two years, Long Beach State Women's Tennis returned to action Friday against Loyola Marymount at the Rhodes Tennis Center, but the Beach lost to the Lions despite taking the doubles point.
Starting the day off well in the top flight of doubles, No. 1 team Zara Lennon and Sheena Masuda took down Wiktoria Rutkowska and Isabella Tcherkes-Zade who were currently ranked No. 18 in doubles.
Long Beach State (0-1) lost in the second flight, but Peppi Ramstedt and Claire Le Du won 6-1 in the third flight to claim the doubles point.
"We came out very strong today with a solid performance to take the doubles point," stated Head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. "We learned a lot from our singles today and we will be better in our next match because of it."
In singles, Claire Le Du won the first set in a tiebreak over Ulyana Shirokova, 7-6, but the Lions took four other matches in straight sets to take the win.
