LONG BEACH, Calif. – New Long Beach State Women's Golf Head Coach Alyssa Waite has filled out her staff, turning to the program's history in hiring Katy Baxter as the program's assistant coach.
Baxter nee Barrett was a four-year letterwinner at Long Beach State from 2005-08, earning first-team All-Big West honors in 2006 and playing a role in leading the program to its first ever NCAA Regional appearance in the same year. She also recorded a Top 10 conference finish as a senior in 2008.
Following her collegiate career, Baxter earned her teaching credential while continuing to play, competing professionally in the Cactus Tour before retiring and turning to work as a golf professional.
Baxter is also a dual Class A Member of the PGA and LPGA and has served in a leadership role, most recently as the Western Section Treasurer for the LPGA.
"I am excited to welcome back Katy Baxter to her Alma Mater," said Waite. "Between her PGA Class A and LPGA experience, she is a wealth of knowledge for these young ladies. I am looking forward to starting a new era with Coach Baxter alongside me here at The Beach."
Starting as an assistant pro at Spanish Trail Country Club in her native Las Vegas, Baxter then moved to work at La Jolla Country Club before most recently joining the Callaway Golf Company, where she worked as a customer service representative through the pandemic.
""I am grateful for this opportunity and excited to come back to my alma mater," said Baxter. "I am looking forward to working with and growing alongside Coach Waite. We are ready and eager to put in the work necessary to be great!"
