Silano Forces Overtime in 89th Minute, LBSU Earns Draw with Washington

The Beach earn their first draw of the season.

SEATTLE, Wash. – Lena Silano scored the equalizer goal off a crossbar rebound in the 89th-minute to force overtime. The goal led Long Beach State (3-2-1) to a draw with Washington (1-4-1) to end the Beach's season-opening road stretch.

The 3-2-1 record marks the best six-game start to a season since 2017.

The Huskies found the back of the net in the 39th-minute on a Vanessa Millsaps goal to put the Beach down 1-0 heading into the half. Washington totaled eight shots in the first 45 minutes, five of which were on goal, compared to just one shot from the Beach.

However, Long Beach State's defense stepped up coming out of the break shutting down the Husky offense and limiting them to a single shot in the second half.

Still trailing by a goal with time winding down, LBSU put together a strong attack forcing a corner with two minutes left. The Huskies' clear off the corner went straight out to Mya Daily who found Kaylee Ramirez at the top corner of the box. With space, she launched a tremendous shot on goal, but just missed off the crossbar.

Silano positioned herself perfectly on the play as the rebound landed right in front of her for a beautiful finish toward the far post to tie the game with 1:16 left to play forcing the game into overtime.

It marks the fourth goal of the season for the junior giving her 10 points through the team's first six games of the year. She now leads the conference in points per game and is tied for the league lead in total goals.

In overtime, the Beach continued their strong defensive pressure not allowing the Huskies a shot in the first 10 minutes and ultimately forcing the 1-1 draw in double overtime. It is the first draw against a PAC-12 opponent since 2015 when LBSU played USC to a scoreless tie on the road.

Long Beach State will finally return home to George Allen Field next week as they play their home opener against Montana on Thursday. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff live on ESPN+.
