Beach Men’s Golf has added assistant coach Murray Naysmith to the staff for the 2021-22 season
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State head men's golf coach, Michael Wilson, announced the addition of Murray Naysmith to the staff as an assistant coach. Naysmith will join the Beach for the 2021-22 season.
Naysmith is a native of Edinburgh, Scotland who played collegiately at the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) and Long Beach State.
"We are excited for Murray to return to Long Beach State in a coaching capacity," said Wilson. "As a former player here Murray is hard working, a great teammate, and extremely passionate about the game of golf. All solid traits that will serve him well as a coach. He is a person of high character with great instincts, who will be a helpful resource and role model to our team. I'm excited about the future of the program and know that Murray will play a big part in the continued upward trajectory."
Prior to concluding his collegiate career at Long Beach State in 2021, Naysmith competed at UAB as an undergrad. There, he was ranked 173rd in the GolfStat National Rankings after boasting seven top-10 finishes and three top-5 showings. The 2018 Conference USA All-Tournament Team selection earned his bachelor's degree at UAB in finance, before coming to Long Beach State where he is working towards a sports management graduate degree.
Naysmith was also part of the Scottish Area Team Championship winning team for three straight years (2012-14). He placed second in the Scottish U18 Order of Merit in 2015, before coming in second in the British Boys Amateur Strokeplay that same year, while competing at Royal Birkdale. Naysmith went on to win the Home Internationals for Scotland in 2015, while competing against teams from England, Wales, and Ireland.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to coach this talented team alongside Coach Wilson," said Naysmith. "I would like to thank Coach Wilson for believing in me. I am looking forward to helping develop these players into better golfers and also prepare them moving forward as good people for whatever their next step may be."
