The Beach adds two Division I transfers and a pair of high school hitters in the late period.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Kim Sowder and the Long Beach State Softball coaching staff have announced the addition of four new players to the incoming 2021 class in Ashleigh Inae, Carly Robbins, Savannah Magadan and Corissa Sweet.
Ashleigh Inae comes to the Beach as a graduate transfer, returning to Southern California after starting at shortstop for four seasons at East Carolina. During her time with the pirates, Inae started every game she played, a total of 180.
Last year, Inae started all 49 games at shortstop and was third on the team with a .261 batting average while leading the team in walks and HBP, reaching base at a .425 rate while stealing seven bases and driving in 16 RBI. In the shortened 2020 season Inae was hitting .409 prior to the end of the campaign after hitting .322 as a sophomore with nine doubles and 17 RBI.
"Ashleigh is a very experienced infielder who has had great success as a player both offensively and defensively at the Division I level," said Sowder. "She'll make an impact for us right away."
The Beach will add another player with Division I experience in Carly Robbins. Robbins starred for four seasons at Los Alamitos High School, and then spent one season at South Carolina despite being limited by injury. In her sole season with the Gamecocks, Robbins made an opening day start but ultimately only played in 20 games after missing over a month of the season.
"Carly is a talented, smart and fierce competitor that will make an immediate impact in our program," said Sowder.
Additionally joining the Beach are a pair of Southern California natives out of high school. The Beach will be adding a catcher in Savannah Magadan, a four-time first-team all league selection out of Lugo High School in Chino. As a senior, Magadan hit .377 with five home runs, slugging .649 on the year,. That was her best since a sophomore campaign where she hit .392 with 29 hits in 23 games.
Also coming to the Beach out of the high school ranks is outfielder Corissa Sweet from Placentia. An All-CIF and multiple first-team all-league selection with El Dorado High School, Sweet hit .420 with eight stolen bases and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
"Savannah is a great addition behind the plate for us along with a very powerful bat, and Corissa will give us depth and options in the outfield," added Sowder. "Offensively, Corissa has good power and speed from the left side. We're excited to see them both join the program. "
