Beach Falls To No. 2 UCLA In First Game Of NCAA Postseason

Long Beach State will face No. 23 Minnesota at 4 p.m. Saturday.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Facing the No. 2 team in the country on the road, Long Beach State lost their first game of the Los Angeles Regional 8-0 in five innings against UCLA.Â
ÂÂ Â Â No. 2 UCLA (42-4) struck in the first inning after Long Beach State (30-10) went down in order in the first. With two runners on, an error brought home the first run in the inning, and the Bruins added one more in the inning unearned to hold a 2-0 lead.Â
ÂÂ Â Â After the Bruins put the leadoff runner on in the second inning, another error left two in front of Briana Perez who homered to make the score 5-0. Two more solo shots followed as UCLA opened up a 7-0 lead.Â
ÂÂ Â Â Rylie Seip led off the fourth inning with a base hit, and the Beach had runners on the corners in the inning, but Megan Faraimo got out of the inning unscathed on the way to the complete game shutout.
ÂÂ Â Â Delainie Wisz hit her second home run of the game in the fourth inning to give the Bruins the eight-run lead they needed to end the game early.Â
ÂÂ Â Â Long Beach State will face No. 23 Minnesota in an elimination game on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. With a win, the Beach would then continue on with a second game on Saturday after staying alive in the double elimination, four-team regional. All games from the Los Angeles Regional will be broadcast on the ESPN family of Networks.
