Long Beach State Set for Big West Tournament as No. 2 Seed

The Beach will open up the Big West Tournament against Sacramento State.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State (16-12) is set for the 2021 Big West Tournament this weekend receiving a number two seed in the bracket.

LBSU's first dual of the weekend will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. against Sacramento State.

The Hornets enters the weekend 0-7 after a late start to their season and are the only team in the conference that the Beach did not play in the regular season.

Long Beach State has never lost a match to Sacramento State with a perfect 5-0 record. In those five matches, the Beach has only ever surrendered one point.

The Beach is 10-8 in the Big West Tournament over the last four years with a 2-2 showing in the last tournament back in 2019.

Mari Molina and Tyler Spriggs will lead the Beach in the first flight once again. The duo finished the regular season with a 17-7 record, the most wins by a Long Beach State pair this season. In total they have 24 career wins in the first flight, the second most in program history.

The Beach is coming off a pair of victories against CSU Bakersfield and CSUN last weekend as they ride a five-match win streak into the tournament.
