Shourds is the third individual player to be selected for the NCAA postseason from LBSU Women’s Golf.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Senior Holland Shourds was one of six individuals to be selected to compete at the 2021 NCAA Regionals at the Stanford Golf Course, hosted by the Cardinal on May 10-12.
Shourds is coming off of a championship performance at the Big West Championship, where the senior finished 2-under par to take the tournament championship by one stroke over three rounds. In the process, she became the third straight LBSU competitor to claim the conference crown.
Long Beach State also played at the Stanford Golf Course at the 2019 NCAA Regional which included Holland Shourds following the team's conference championship win in that season.
A First-Team All-Big West selection, Shourds will be joined in Stanford by the other conference competitors. Cal Poly earned automatic selection as the team champions of the Big West, while Big West Golfer of the Year Brittany Shin was also picked to compete as an individual.
Shourds is the third Long Beach State women's golfer to earn individual selection into the postseason. Kay Hoey was a two-time selection in 2007 and 2009, while Kassidy Teare made back-to-back trips to the Regionals in 2015 and 2016.
Overall, Shourds will represent the Beach as Long Beach State makes its ninth NCAA Regional appearance, having also gone as a team on four occasions in 2006 and 2009 before making two straight trips in 2018 and 2019.
The Stanford Regional is one of four regional sites that will lead to the NCAA Championship which will be held May 21-26 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. The top three individual finishers that are not part of an advancing team will move on to compete as individuals at the NCAA Championship. The aim for Shourds in the tournament will be to advance and become the second LBSU golfer to compete in the championship, joining Hoey who advanced on two occasions.
