Simon Andersen Collects Men’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week Award

The senior middle blocker posted a career-high 13 blocks against CSUN last week en route to earning the honor
IRVINE, Calif. – On the heels of being selected to the All-Big West First Team this morning, Simon Andersen was named Big West Conference Men's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after turning in a career performance last week against CSUN.
Andersen led the Long Beach State defense last week with a total of 15 blocks to average 1.88 per set over two matches. He kicked off the weekend with a career-high 13 blocks (2 solo blocks, 11 block assists) at CSUN on Friday night marking the second time this season he has registered double-digit blocks.
The 6-foot-8 middle blocker contributed offensively as well as he hit .400 on the week after knocking down 13 kills on 25 swings, while committing just three attack errors.
The product out of Middlefart, Denmark has been solid on both sides of the ball all season as he leads the team at the net with 1.45 blocks per set, while hitting a team-high .409 (69-13-137) on the year. His blocks per set output is tops in the Big West and second in the nation.
Andersen and the Beach will kick off the Big West Tournament as the No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 seed UC Irvine on Thursday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m.
