IRVINE, Calif. – For the third week in a row, Clarke Godbold was named Big West Conference Men's Volleyball Freshman of the Week after another excellent showing on the court for Long Beach State last week. With the honors, he becomes just the second individual in league history to earn three-straight Big West Conference Men's Volleyball Freshman of the Week awards.
Godbold led the Beach to a pair of sweeps over then-No. 12 UC San Diego as he averaged 3.00 kills per set on a .405 attack percentage for the week. He also added 1.50 digs per set, 0.67 blocks per set, and two aces.
On Friday, Godbold recorded his sixth double-digit kill performance on an impressive .435 attack percentage. The 6-foot-5 outside hitter knocked down 11 kills on 23 swings with just one error, while also tying for the team lead in blocks with three.
The San Pedro, Calif., native came back the next day and added seven kills while hitting .357. He served up a pair of aces to go along with five digs, and a block in another straight-set victory over the Tritons.
Since starting the season on March 20, Long Beach State has dominated the Big West Conference Men's Volleyball Freshman of the Week award with a Beach player winning in each of the last four weeks.
Godbold and the Beach will conclude the regular season with a pair of matches against CSUN. As LBSU will travel to Northridge, Calif., on Friday, April 16 for a 7 p.m. contest, before hosting the Matadors at the Walter Pyramid on Saturday, April 17 at 7 p.m.
