Schafer Tied for First, LBSU in Fourth After the First Round at Bandon Dunes Championship

Tyler Schafer shot a 66 for 5-under par to lead the Beach
BANDON, Ore. – Junior Tyler Schafer paced Long Beach State in the first round at the Bandon Dunes Championship on Sunday at the Bandon Trails Course. With Schafer's team-leading 5-under par, the Beach sit in fourth place at the end of the first round after shooting 3-under par, while Schafer is tied for first.
Utah and San Francisco are leading the way in the 14-team tournament as the two teams are shooting 10-under par after the first 18-holes. Oregon is in third place with 5-under, while the Beach are in fourth (-3) and Fresno State sits in fifth (-1).
Schafer started the tournament out strong as he shot a 66 for 5-under par while recording five birdies and an eagle. He birdied back-to-back holes at 1 and 2, 4 and 5, before getting a birdie at hole 14. Two holes later, at hole 16, he finished a par 5 in three strokes.
Senior Hunter Epson also turned in a solid showing in the first round for the Beach. He shot a 69 for 2-under while registering four birdies on holes 3, 4, 16, and 18.
Long Beach State will be back in action Monday morning for the second round of competition at the Bandon Dunes Championship. Live stats will be available via www.GolfStat.com.
