Jones Named Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week

Junior Alec Jones has been named the Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week after an incredible showing at UCLA.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – For the second consecutive week, Long Beach State had an athlete earn weekly honors as Alec Jones was named Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
This marks the first weekly honor that Jones has received in his Long Beach State career.
The junior thrower won the men's Discus setting a new personal best at 55.49m (182-01) beating his previous PR by almost four feet. He led a trio of LBSU student-athletes that claimed a 1-2-3 finish at UCLA's Bob Larsen Track Meet. His event-winning throw also gave him a victory over the number one ranked thrower in the Big West along with three UCLA student-athletes. It is the second consecutive week that Jones has improved on his career-best.
The Riverside, Calif. native also took home second in the men's Hammer Throw at 58.36m (191-06). Finishing just nine inches shy of his conference-leading mark and current personal best, he helped Long Beach State capture a 2-3 finish in the event to kick off Saturday's action at UCLA.
He currently ranks tops in the Big West for men's Hammer Throw, a mark that is also ranks 35th in the West Region.
His new personal best in Discus is good for a number two ranking in the conference, as well as number eight in the West region and 18th in the entire nation.
