Beach Outdoor T&F Closes Out Trojan Invitational

The Long Beach State outdoor track and field team finished their opening weekend at the Trojan Invitational and posted several personal bests in the process.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Long Beach State closed out their season opening weekend at the Trojan Invitational with a pair of event wins and several personal bests.
Porte Joie Tshiaba took home an event win for the Beach with a 2.15m High Jump just shy of his personal best. It also ranks number three in the nation.
Michael Magula took home first place in the men's Pole Vault with a 4.70m mark. Teammate Preston Sladek just behind him in second with a personal best at 4.40m.
The 1500m runners were a bright spot of the day for the Beach with Ryley Fick finishing in second for the women with a 4:36.31 time, while Brieanna Tafoya came out in fourth with a time of 4:46.93. Both times were new career bests.
On the men's side, Raymon Ornelas took home a third place finish with a 3:58.79 mark. Teammates, Arturo Sotomayor (3:58.93) and Ricardo Cardenas (3:59.03) finished right behind Ornelas in fourth and fifth, respectively.
The throwers continued their success with a second-place finish in the men's Javelin Throw from Ryan Coy, who shattered his previous collegiate best with a 59.19m mark. Sydney Barnes brought home a second-place finish on the women's side with a personal best of her own at 37.37m.
Captain Brianna Uipi finished in third in the Women's Shot Put with a 12.17m mark.

The outdoor track and field team will be back in action on Thursday, March 25 with the UC Irvine Distance Carnival before heading to UCLA on Saturday for the Jim Bush Legends' Invitational.
