Senior Hunter Epson leads the Beach as he sits in a tie for sixth place shooting two-under par
FRESNO, Calif. – The Long Beach State men's golf team kicked off the 2021 season at the Nick Watney Invitational on Monday and after two rounds, found themselves in sixth place.
Long Beach State is just one stroke out of fifth place and two out of fourth. St. Mary's (-18), Loyola Marymount (-17), and BYU (-16) hold the top three spots, respectively, with Pacific in fourth and Gonzaga in fifth.
As a team, the Beach are in sixth as they are shooting five-under par. Long Beach State opened the first round firing a 289 for 1-over, before coming back in the second round and shaving seven strokes off their first round showing (282).
The Beach are led by reigning Nick Watney Invitational Champion, Hunter Epson who is tied for sixth place after shooting 5-under par. Epson finished the first round with a 69 for 3-under, before firing a 70 in the second round.
Behind Epson are Clay Seeber (T19), Tyler Schafer (33), Hunter Reed (T34), and Isaac Rodea (T36). Seeber is shooting 2-under par after scoring a 71 in both rounds. Schafer is 2-over par after starting off the first round with a 4-over showing, then bouncing back to shoot a 70 in the second round.
Reed struggled in the first round with a 4-over par, but came back in the second round and knocked five strokes off his swing to bring him to a tie for 34th place with a 3-over par finish. Rodea rounds out the Beach representatives with a 4-over par as he sits in a tie for 36th place.
Long Beach State will be back in action Tuesday, Feb. 8 for the final round at the Nick Watney Invitational. Fans can follow all the Beach action on GolfStat.com.
