
LBSU Men’s Golf Takes Fourth at the Nick Watney Invitational

Senior Hunter Epson led the Beach with a 69-70-68 for a tie for fourth

FRESNO, Calif. – On the last day of the Nick Watney Invitational, Long Beach State moved up two spots as the Beach shaved seven strokes off their game in the final round to finish in fourth place with an 851 for 13-under par.
LBSU came in behind champion, BYU, which finished 31-under par, Loyola Marymount (-28), and St. Mary's (-24). The Beach shot 280 for 8-under par in the final round to claim fourth as they moved up over Pacific and Gonzaga which were ahead of Long Beach State following the first two rounds.
Senior Hunter Epson and junior Tyler Schafer both turned in excellent performances in the final round with both players firing a 68. Epson's final round saw him birdie on three holes including back-to-back on the fourth and fifth. But his best showing came on hole 12, when he sunk and eagle en route to finishing in a tie for fourth as he shot 9-under par with a 207.
Schafer continued his solid performance from yesterday as he also shot a 68 on the final round to finish tied for 21st with a 214 for 2-under par. In the final round, Schafer logged three birdies.
Sophomore Clay Seeber finished 1-under par in a tie for 26th, while senior Hunter Reed tied for 34th with a 3-over par, and sophomore Isaac Rodea placed 36th after shooting 4-over.
Long Beach State will be back in action at the Prestige in La Quinta Calif., on Monday, Feb. 15. The three-day invitational will conclude on Wednesday, Feb. 17.
