The No. 16 ranked Beach opened up the 2021 season with a two-game split against No. 19 Stanford
LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 16 ranked Long Beach State (1-1) opened up the 2021 campaign with a two-game split against No. 19 Stanford (1-1). The Beach took the first match, 3-2, but fell in the second, 1-4.
In the first match, Nicci Reinking and Makenzie Griffin dominated flight two taking both sets 21-15 and 21-11 for the first victory of the day. Skyler Germann and Alice Pratesi bounced back from a first set loss to take the next two, 21-17 and 15-8, for the second victory. The flight five duo of Emily Mattoon and Jillian Rodriguez would secure the Beach's first victory of the season with 21-12 and 21-14 set wins.
Germann and Pratesi would pick up the only win for the Beach in match number two, taking the fourth flight, 21-15 and 21-19.
Kenzie Holtz and Katie Kennedy went into a third set attempting to hold off the Cardinal from taking the victory, but ultimately fell 21-14, 14-21, 8-15.
The Beach is back in action next weekend as they host a tri-dual with Vanguard and No. 8 Loyola Marymount on Thursday, March 4.
