Men's Basketball Continues Naples Invitational Against Murray State

NAPLES. Fla. -- Long Beach State takes on a new challenge this week at an interesting tournament just before Thanksgiving, taking part in the Naples Invitational in Florida starting on Monday, November 22. Featuring eight mid-major programs playing three games each in three days, the Beach will make the turn against Murray State, facing the Racers at 11:30 a.m. PT. Each game of the tournament will be streamed live on FloHoops.

RIGHT AWAY
• An interesting wrinkle of the tournament is that no matter how the bracket shapes up, it will be the first meeting between Long Beach State and any of the other six teams participating in the Naples Invitational after falling in the first game against Missouri State, who the Beach had played two times prior.

• The Beach has played in two overtime games in its first three contests, falling last Wednesday in the team's home opener against Utah Valley 84-78. Long Beach State had four players finish in double figures, led by Joel Murray with 18 and Jordan Roberts with 16 points.

• Long Beach State came away from its opening road trip with a split of its first two games. The Beach had five players in double figures led by a double-double from Jordan Roberts and 28 points from Joel Murray in a gritty overtime win at Idaho. The squad then gave No. 2 UCLA a scare behind monster nights from Joel Murray and Colin Slater before the Bruins pulled away in the second half.

• With nine returning lettermen, Long Beach State has a strong veteran core that will be supplemented by three transfers, three incoming freshman and a returning redshirt for a large roster of 16 players. Leadership will come from three players who elected to return for a fifth year, as Jordan Roberts, Colin Slater and Drew Cobb each have decided to return to the Beach.

• Long Beach State has officially changed the nickname for all sports other than baseball to Beach with the NCAA. Please do not refer to LBSU Basketball as the 49ers.
