Long Beach State Sweeps UC San Diego on the Road

The Beach hit .357 and log a season-high 13.0 total team blocks in the 3-0 victory

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Long Beach State posted a solid showing on both sides of the ball as the Beach swept UC San Diego, 3-0 [25-22. 25-19, 25-23] at the RIMAC Arena on Friday night.
The Beach (13-15, 7-10 Big West) hit .357 on the night as they limited the Tritons (9-19, 6-11 Big West) to a .155 attack percentage. Long Beach State's defense was also on point as the Beach posted a season-best 13.0 total team blocks.
Outside hitters Eykah Lovett and Kashauna Williams teamed up to lead the offense with 13 kills apiece. Williams hit .571 as she knocked down her 13 kills on 21 kills while committing just one error. Lovett, meanwhile, hit. 393 (13-2-28) in the match, while adding eight digs.
Tia Chavira set a masterful offense as she dished out 40 assists, while also contributing six digs and six blocks on defense.
Libero Nicole Hoff anchored the backrow with 16 digs for her 24th multi-dig performance of the year. She has now led LBSU in digs 17 times this season.
At the net, Miranda Canez put up six blocks (2 solo, 4 assists), while Kameron Bacon added four (1 solo, 3 assists), and Katie Kennedy chipped in two.
The Beach opened up the first set on a 7-0 run to take a 10-6 lead over the Tritons. However, UC San Diego would battle back and even the score at 17-all, tying the game a total of five times, before Long Beach State rattled off three-straight points to take a 20-17 lead en route to winning the first set, 25-22.
Long Beach State hit .414 in the second set and used a 6-0 run to jump in front 9-7. The Tritons turned their deficit into a three-point lead (13-10) after scoring five-straight points of their own. After finding themselves deadlocked at 14-14, the Beach went on a 7-1 run as they would go on to win, 25-19.
With LBSU leading 2-0, the third set started out close as the conference foes battled each other back and forth early on. The Beach went on a 5-0 run to take a 9-5 lead that they would hold for most of the game. However, the Tritons chipped away and evened the score at 22-all. The two teams fought each other hard, but Long Beach State won out as Williams sent it to set point with a kill and Chavira gave the Beach the win with a solo block, 25-23.
UC San Diego was led by Ava McInnes and Sabire Karacaova who each had 10 kills, while Isabela Dobra distributed 37 assists and 11 digs for a double-double. Grace Cannon and Karacaova each posted three blocks for the Tritons.
Long Beach State will be back in action for its final home match on Saturday, Nov. 20 as the Beach host UC Irvine in the Black and Blue Rivalry at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
