LBSU Men’s Golf Announces the Signing of Three Incoming Freshmen

Ivan Barahona, Jack Cantlay, and Jaden Huggins will join the Beach for the 2022-23 season
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Head Men's Golf Coach Michael Wilson announced the signing of three incoming freshman for the 2022-23 season in Ivan Barahona, Jack Cantlay, and Jaden Huggins.
Ivan Barahona
Los Angeles, Calif. | Crespi Carmelite HS
Ivan Barahona comes to the Beach from Crespi Carmelite High School in Los Angeles, Calif., bringing multiple accolades with him to Long Beach State. He was the 2019 Mission League MVP as well as the Daily News Newcomer of the Year. He placed first at the 2019 Mission League Championship, shooting 70, 72, 70 for 4-under par to take the individual title. He also placed second at the 2020 Gold State Tour at Temecula Creek where he was the low amateur and shot 9-under par including a first round 65, followed by a second round of 70. He has also posted a pair of third place finishes at CIF Finals where he shot 70, and at the 2019 AJGA Junior All-Star at Wigwam where he finished 6-under for the tournament, posting two rounds of 69. Barahona also has earned two fourth place showings, at the 2019 Junior PGA Section Championship, and at the Toyota Tour Cup Invitational La Costa Golf Course where he shot 69-73-69.

"Ivan is a driven and competitive player. He is skilled with his short game and has all the traits needed to play at a high level. We look forward to seeing him suit up in the black and gold."

Jack Cantlay
Servite High School | Los Alamitos, Calif.
Jack Cantlay joins the Beach after a standout high school career. He posted multiple top-five and top-10 performances over his time at Servite High School including a runner up showing at the 2021 AJGA at the Bridges where he shot 66-69-71. At the 2021 AJGA Transamerica Junior Open he placed fourth shooting 73-69-77. He also earned two fifth place finishes in 2021 at the SCGA Amateur Championship where he shot 70-64-69-74, and at the Toyota Tour Cup at Industry Hills where he shot 69-72. He also had two top-10 showings this year with a sixth place showing at the AJGA Reno/Tahoe Junior and an eighth place performance at the Toyota Tour Cup Cantlay Series.

"Jack is one of the best local players who has shown steady improvement and growth in the last few years. He has everything he needs to go as far as he wishes in the game. Jack has had an impressive summer and we know great things lay ahead for him here at Long Beach State."

Jaden Huggins
San Diego, Calif. | Vista Murrieta High School
Jaden Huggins comes to the Beach from Vista Murrieta High School in Murrieta, Calif. where he was a standout athlete. Over the past two years, he has earned numerous victories and multiple top-five showings. At the FCG at La Costa he posted a 73-71 to earn the win. He also won the Toyota Tour Cup at Arrowhead Golf Course where he shot 73-69. Huggins has also finished runner up several times. At the FCG Global Cup he fired a 71-70. Over three rounds at the Callaway World Championship he tied for second with rounds of 70, 67 and 68. He also tied for second at the National Tour at La Los Serranos, where he shot 74-69. Additionally at CIF Southern Section he shot 69 to come in fifth place overall as an individual.

"Jaden is an explosive player with plenty of speed and power. We are excited to welcome him to The Beach and feel he will come in with immediate impact both on the course and within the team culture."
