LBSU Wins Third Straight with 1-0 Victory at CSUN

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Long Beach State (9-5-2, 6-1-1 BWC) won their third straight game with a 1-0 victory at CSUN (3-14, 2-5 BWC) on Thursday night. It marks the third consecutive shutout for the Beach, all of which have come on the road.
Long Beach State had a dominant first half registering 10 shots through the first 45 minutes with four of them being on target. Seven of the shots came before LBSU found the back of the net in the 27th minute.
Kaylee Ramirez had space in the backfield, launching it down field to find Lena Silano out in front of the Matador defense. The junior would dribble left to force the keeper into a slide and open the goal for an easy finish from Kayla Cannon.
The goal marks the third of the season for the Torrance native and the fifth of her career. All three of her goals this year have been game-winners.
Morgan Houston-Shepherd had a phenomenal first half making three saves, including a diving stop on a Matador breakaway in the 16th minute to keep things scoreless.
Coming out of the half, Long Beach State made a goalkeeper change with Zora Standifer taking over in net. The freshman would finish out the shutout, recording a save in the process.
LBSU kept up the pressure in the second half, earning four corners and launching five more shots. In total, they outshot the Matadors 15-9 and had nine corners on the night to CSUN's zero.
With the 1-0 win, LBSU has three straight clean sheets for the first time since the 2017 campaign.
The Beach returns home next week to battle for the regular season Big West title as they host both Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara at George Allen Field.
