LONG BEACH, Calif. –
Long Beach State junior outside hitter Kashauna Williams recorded her 1,000th career-kill en route to a 21-kill performance to help lift the Beach to a four-set victory over UC San Diego, 3-1 [25-22, 23-25, 25-21, 25-20] on Friday night at the Walter Pyramid.

The Beach (9-9, 3-4 Big West) were led by Williams who hit .368 in the match against the Tritons (6-12, 3-4 Big West). Williams recorded her sixth 20-plus kill match of the season and became just the 17th player in Long Beach State program history to reach the 1,000-kill milestone.

Also recording double-figure kills in the match was sophomore opposite Katie Kennedy who finished the match with 11 to go along with six digs and five blocks.

Sophomore setter Tia Chavira piloted the Beach to a .235 attack percentage as she distributed 42 assists, while adding 10 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. She also added six kills on a .500 clip (6-1-10) and a career-high five service aces
Defensively, Long Beach State was paced junior defensive specialist Dylan Dela Cruz's 17 digs. She paced four players who reached double-digit digs in freshman defensive specialist Jenna Giambi (14 digs), sophomore libero Nicole Hoff (13 digs), and Chavira (10 digs).

At the net, freshman Kameron Bacon continued to sizzle as she posted seven blocks in the match.

The Beach and Tritons started off the match with a close first set, but LBSU opened up a 10-6 lead on an ace from Chavira which forced a UCSD timeout. The Beach held a slight lead until the Tritons chipped away to even the score at 14-14. It was a back-and-forth match until a solo block by Miranda Canez followed by Williams' milestone kill broke a 22-22 tie to send the Beach to set point before winning 25-22.

Long Beach State it .308 in the second set and held the lead over UC San Diego for much of the frame. However, the Tritons battled back and used a 5-1 run to take a 17-16 lead. The Beach tied the game at 21-21 on a kill from Williams, but the Tritons finished it off with a 25-23 win to even the match at one set apiece.

The third set saw UCSD jump out in front on a 5-0 run as the Tritons took an 8-3 lead over the Beach. Long Beach State, however, would use a 5-0 run of its own to take a 13-12 lead on a kill from Bacon. From there the conference foes would trade points back and forth until the Chavira led LBSU on a 4-0 run highlighted by a pair of aces from the San Bernardino, Calif., native. The Beach would go on to win the third set, 25-21, and go up 2-1 in the match over UCSD.

UC San Diego kicked off the fourth set with six-straight points and just as it looked like things were going the Tritons' way, the Beach used a 7-1 run to even the score at 11-11. Long Beach State rattled off another six-consecutive points to take a 17-13 advantage as the Beach took control of the match before crusing to a 25-20 victory.

UCSD was led by Emily McDaniel's 14 kills, while Zaria Henderson added 12, and Ava McInnes contributed 11. McInnes would finish with a double-double as she also posted 11 digs to go along with three blocks. Naya Dong concluded the match with 17 digs, while Juliette Bokor and McDaniel led the team with seven blocks each.

Long Beach State will take on UC Irvine in the Black and Blue rivalry match on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 5 p.m. in Irvine, Calif. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
