Dirtbags Announce Loaded 2022 Schedule

The schedule features an even split of 28 home games and 28 road games.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Coming off an impressive 2021 season, the Dirtbags will look to continue their success with a full 56-game schedule starting in February. The news was announced by head coach Eric Valenzuela on Monday.
"I think this is one of the best, if not the best, non-conference schedules in the country," said Coach Valenzuela.
The non-conference schedule kicks off with the defending national champions to open up the season. On Feb. 18-20, Long Beach State heads to Starkville for a three-game set against Mississippi State at Dudy Noble Field. The Bulldogs are coming off their first ever NCAA title in Omaha last season.
The Dirtbags' home opener is the following weekend (Feb. 25-27), as they play host to Sacramento State. The opening game on Friday will start at 6:00 p.m. with 3:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. start times on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Following Sacramento State, the Bison of North Dakota State will visit Bohl Diamond at Blair Field for a three-game series from Mar. 4-6.
LBSU will also face the defending Big Ten champions, Nebraska, on the road in their final non-conference weekend series. The series with the Huskers will take place Mar. 11-13 at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park.
Coach Valenzuela continued, "I think having to go through those four-game sets in conference last year is going to benefit us this season. We are used to that length and time now and that competition made us better."
Big West action begins on March 18 as the Dirtbags welcome Hawai'i to Bohl Diamond at Blair Field for a weekend series. UC San Diego (Apr. 1-3), UC Irvine (Apr. 29-May), UC Riverside (May 6-8), and Cal State Fullerton (May 20-22) will also make trips to Long Beach for weekend series during the conference season.
Long Beach State is scheduled for 11 midweek games throughout the season with the most notable being two against UCLA, two against San Diego State, and one against UCONN.
Overall, the Dirtbags will play eight teams that appeared in the NCAA Regionals a year ago, and 10 of their opponents this year won 30-plus games during the 2021 season.
