Rowland, Ruffin Lead Offensive Explosion in 8-0 Run Rule Win

Long Beach State recorded its second run-rule win of the season with a five-inning victory over San Diego State.
The back half of the lineup came through a big way Sunday for Long Beach State (2-1), as Maddy Ruffin in the six hole and Taylor Rowland in the seven combined for two singles, two doubles and a triple accounting for six RBI as the Beach rolled to a five-inning win over San Diego State (17-11).
The Beach broke a first-inning deadlock with a run in the second, with Ruffin getting the action started with a single, then coming around to score on a double from Rowland.
A leadoff triple from Rylie Seip was the catalyst for the biggest inning of the day in the third. Alyssa Gonzalez singled to bring home a second run, and then with two on, Ruffin singled to score a third. Rowland kept the inning going with a second double, this time scoring two runs and the Beach had a 5-0 lead after three.
Singles from Seip and Breezy Wise and a walk loaded the bases up to start the fourth, and after an RBI groundout from Justine Briones, Ruffin had her third hit of the day, a two-run triple to put the Beach on top by eight and lead to the shortened victory.

All that offense was in support of a typically consistent Kellie White performance, who improved to 6-5 with a 5.0 inning complete game, striking out four. Her only trouble came in the third following a single and a steal from Taylor Adams as the only batter to touch third, but Maddy Ruffin kept her from crossing the plate with a great throw on a Shelby Thompson single to maintain the shutout.

The tournament closes with one final game Monday, as Long Beach State hosts Boston at the LBSU Softball Complex with first pitch scheduled for 10 a.m.
