Long Beach State drops 4-0 decision at home
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State women's tennis team suffered a 4-0 setback to Loyola Marymount on Thursday afternoon at the Rhodes Tennis Center.
Long Beach State (6-4) got off to a tough start as the Beach lost the doubles point to LMU (4-2). Despite Natalia Munoz and Zara Lennon's 6-4 win at No. 1, the Lions won at No. 2 and No. 3 to take a 1-0 lead over the Beach.
Heading into singles competition down 1-0, Long Beach State faltered at No. 1 as Munoz dropped a pair of 6-2, 6-2 decisions to Veronica Miroshnichenko as the Beach fell behind 2-0.
At No. 6, Lalita Devarakonda battled Yesica de Lucas in the first set, coming up just short 7-5, before falling, 6-1, as Loyola Marymount took a 3-0 advantage.
The Lions completed the sweep with a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 5 where Lennon was defeated by Siobhan Anderson.
Long Beach State looks to get back on the winning track on Friday, March 6 when it hosts Big West Conference foe Cal State Fullerton at 2 p.m. at Rhodes Tennis Center.
