Senior Riki DeSa launched a solo home run in the second inning, but that was the extent of the Long Beach State offense on Tuesday night as Washington came away with a 4-1 victory on Bohl Diamond at Blair Field.
Senior Riki DeSa got the Dirtbags on the board in the second inning, launching the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for a solo home run. It's the second career home run for DeSa, and his first at home. The homer was also in his first plate appearance of the season, meaning he homered on the first pitch he's seen this season.
Chase Luttrell and Aidan Malm each singled for the Dirtbags, representing the other two hits on the night. Luttrell extends his hitting streak up to nine games going back to last season.BOOM!!!! On the mound, Jonathan Carlos got his first career start, covering a career-long 4.0 innings. He surrendered three runs—all in the second inning—highlighted by a two-run home run by Christian Jones.
Freshman Jake Rons threw three shutout innings of relief while classmate Devereaux Harrison got the final six outs while giving up one run.
Long Beach State will look to regroup after two straight setbacks and get ready for an exciting weekend series. No. 17 Wake Forest will be in Long Beach for a three-game set, starting Friday at 6 p.m.
