The Belgrade native will join the team in 2021-22.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Women's Water Polo has announced the commitment of Nadja Novakovic, the first signing of recently promoted head coach Shana Welch. Novakovic played one season at West Valley College in Saratoga, Calif., and will come to the Beach in the next academic year.

Novakovic was spectacular in her lone season at West Valley, leading the Vikings to a third-place finish in the state championships. A first-team all-league selection, Novakovic scored 119 goals and made 47 assists in her lone season as the Vikings went 25-7 overall and won both the Coast Conference regular season and tournament championships without taking a conference loss.

The CCCAA women's water polo season is contested in the fall, and the 2019-20 season was completed in full prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Novakovic will join the Beach in 2021-22.

"We are excited to welcome Nadja to the Long Beach family," said Welch. "Her athleticism and strength along with her wealth of water polo experience will be a great addition to our returning team. She is an all- around good person who will fit in well with our team culture here at Long Beach and we look forward to her joining us next year."
