Both players were All-Mountain West Conference selections in 2020.

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Long Beach State Softball is excited to announce that two additional transfers have joined the program.

Suzy Brookshire will use her final year of eligibility to join the Beach after four outstanding seasons as a power bat and utility defender.

A star in three seasons at Sacramento State, Brookshire transferred to San Jose State for the shortened 2020 season. Starting every game for the 21-5 Spartans, Brookshire hit .356 and had eight home runs, slugging .808 on the year. She earned All-Mountain West honors after leading the team with 22 RBI and drawing 10 walks to go with her outstanding power numbers.

Prior to joining San Jose State, Brookshire starred for Sacramento State for three seasons where she earned three All-Big Sky selections as well as the 2018 Most Valuable Player award from the Big Sky, leading the Hornets to a conference championship and the NCAA Regionals …  After hitting .358 as a freshman, she improved to .371 as a sophomore and showcased her power over all three seasons, totaling 44 home runs in her Hornet career … She hit 18 home runs as a sophomore with 51 RBI, her most prolific single season total.

Also joining the Beach from SJSU will be freshman pitcher Shannon Haddad. Haddad was the primary arm for the Spartans in her first collegiate season in 2020, making 18 appearances and eight starts while throwing a team-high 69.2 innings. Over the course of that work Haddad was very impressive, posting a 1.00 ERA with an 11-3 overall record, also making two saves. She struck out 79 with just 15 walks, and finished every game she stared, throwing four shutouts.

Haddad also earned All-Mountain West honors and was sixth in the country in wins during her first season of collegiate softball.

"Both Suzy and Shannon will make an immediate impact and help us compete for a championship," said head coach Kim Sowder. "Suzy brings great power and consistency to the offense, and her ability to play multiple positions gives us many options. Shannon is a fierce competitor in the circle with a great arsenal of pitches. We're elated to add them both to our Beach Softball family."

The two newcomers join Ashley Machado as San Jose State transfers joining the program, a boost to the Beach that already featured a strong returning core following the 2020 season.
