LONG BEACH, Calif. – The first weekend of the 2020 dual match season will be an important one for Beach Tennis. Long Beach State opens the regular season on Saturday with a tough road test at No. 19 USC (1-1) before hosting UC Davis in the team's Big West opener the next day.
LBSU will take on the Women of Troy on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. It will be the first match of the season for the Beach but the fifth for USC. The Women of Troy will also be playing UC Santa Barbara at Noon on Saturday, making it a busy day for the hosts. Fans can watch the match online via USC's live stream.
USC has a trio of ranked singles players in Angela Kulikov (No. 60), Sydney Van Alphen (No. 68) and Danielle Willson (No. 70), along with the No. 29 pair of Kulikov/Willson. Long Beach State's Sadaf Sadeghvaziri enters the match with a ranking of No. 106 in the nation.
Long Beach State will then play its home opener at Rhodes Tennis Center at 11 a.m. on Sunday against UC Davis. The Beach took care of the Aggies with a 4-0 win last season in Northern California. That match kicks off a four-match homestand for the Beach stretching from Feb. 2-15. The Beach is coming off a successful tour schedule that saw LBSU win 77.6 percent of its singles matches and 71.8 percent of matches during doubles play.
