Long Beach State Goes 8-1 on Strong Saturday at Winter Invite

Beach Tennis swept its three doubles matches and went 5-1 in singles play against Portland State and Portland, respectively. The Beach will wrap up the 2020 Beach Tennis Winter Invite on Sunday, scheduled for a 9 a.m. start at Rhodes Tennis Center.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – On day two of the 2020 Beach Tennis Winter Invitational, Long Beach State posted an 8-1 record against opponents from Rip City. The Beach went 3-0 in doubles against Portland State and had a 5-1 singles mark against Portland on Saturday.

After a solid day yesterday, Emma Bardet came back with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles, leading the way for the Beach against the Pilots. The remainder of the singles lineup won their matches in straight sets: Sadaf Sadeghvaziri, Lalita Devarakonda, and Carlota Casasampere. Notably, at the No. 6 singles flight, freshman Inbar Cohen picked up the first singles victory of her Long Beach State career by a 6-4, 6-1 margin.

In doubles, the Beach won all three matches by scores of 6-2 or better. Natalia Munoz and Zara Lennon picked up a 6-2 win at the No. 1 spot in the lineup, followed by a 6-2 win by Devarakonda/Casasampere and a 6-1 win for Sadeghvaziri/Cohen.

Action is scheduled to resume at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning as LBSU will face Portland in doubles and CSUN in singles play.
