LBSU Blanked in Series Opener at Cal State Fullerton, 6-0

The Dirtbags got a strong start from sophomore Adam Seminaris and three players (Chris Jimenez, Jacob Hughey and Aidan Malm) recorded two-hit games, but Long Beach State suffered a 6-0 loss to rivals Cal State Fullerton on Thursday night on ESPNU.
FULLERTON, Calif. – Thursday night's series opener at Goodwin Field started out as a lefthanded pitcher's duel, but Cal State Fullerton (23-25, 9-10 Big West) pulled away late to take a 6-0 victory over Long Beach State (11-39, 5-14 Big West) in a game televised on ESPNU.
Â
Sophomore Adam Seminaris tossed six innings, allowing just one unearned run on four hits and two walks while striking out five Titans. Fullerton scored five runs in two innings following his departure from the game to pull away for the win.
Â
Three Dirtbags recorded multi-hit games, as leadoff man Chris Jimenez and two-hole hitter Jacob Hughey each went 2-for-4 in the game. Cleanup hitter Aidan Malm was 2-for-3 with a walk in the game and both Hughey and Malm smacked doubles for Long Beach State.
Â
LBSU had at least one runner on base in seven of the nine innings, and loaded the bases in the sixth with two hits and a walk. Unfortunately, Chase Luttrell's sinking line drive was right at the Fullerton shortstop to strand the bases full. The Dirtbags also got a pair of singles and a walk in the ninth inning but stranded two runners in scoring position to end the game.
Â
The Dirtbags will look to even the series tomorrow with a special 8:15 p.m. first pitch. Junior RHP Nick Avila (0-4, 4.50 ERA) will make the start for Long Beach State while a Fullerton starter has not been announced.
